F/A-18 Navy Super Hornet History:
The combat-proven F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is the 21st century's premier strike fighter with all the capability, flexibility and performance necessary to modernize the air or naval aviation forces of any country. Built by the industry team of Boeing, Northrop Grumman, GE Aircraft Engines, Raytheon and more than 1,800 suppliers nationwide, the Super Hornet provides the warfighter with today's newest advances in multi-mission capability and growth for decades to come in missions, roles and technology.
The F/A-18 Navy Super Hornet is a bigger and highly developed variant of the F/A-18C and F/A-18D aircrafts. In 1992, the aircraft was purchased from McDonnell Douglas by the United States Navy. Its first flew in 1995. Its first carrier landing was in 1997 and it entered the service in 1999. The present models are the F/A-18E and F/A-18F aircrafts. There are dissimilarities between the Super Hornet and the original Hornet even though they have identical layouts and systems. The Super Hornet was called the “Rhino” and the earlier Hornets were called the “Legacy”.
There were several problems for the United States aviation in the early 1990s. The development of the A-12 Avenger II that was supposed to replace the A-6 Intruder and A-7 Corsair II aircrafts were stopped. As a substitute to the A-12 Avenger, McDonnell Douglas submitted a proposal that was called “Super Hornet” for the advancement of the earlier F/A-16 models and to replace the A-6 Intruder which has a better payload than the A-7 Corsair. This model has measurements of: Span 0.0 Len 0.0 and Scale: 1: 0
